Theo, July 2009
Theo was admitted to our care when Maria’s Big House of Hope first opened its doors in July 2009. At the time, he was recovering from a surgery to correct a form of spina bifida. He also required a shunt and was diagnosed with arthrogryposis, a condition which affects the joints in his legs. Thanks to Show Hope sponsors, the improvements to Theo’s health over the past 8 months have been miraculous!!
Nannies, nurses, and even recent volunteers refer to Theo as the “happy boy” because he is always smiling and laughing. He loves to play peek-a-boo and will instantly burst into laughter if you play with him. Theo also enjoys creating his own “music” for the other children at MBHOH by shaking toy rattles. Most of all, though, Theo loves to be held and cuddled.

Theo, now
While he will never be able to walk due to the arthrogryposis, there is hope that Theo will be able to use a wheelchair in the future. Erma, Theo’s nurse, recently began putting him in a specialized wheelchair for a few hours a day. Now two years old, he has learned to feed himself with a bottle and sit up in a regular chair. Show Hope sponsors have, without a doubt, had a tremendous impact in changing the life of this little boy.
