“Last September, Ryan and I read that if one family in every five churches adopted one foster child, there would be no orphans left in the state. We were convicted to the core. For the next month, we prayed, discussed, sought counsel, and researched adoption.
“Sure that God wanted us to seek a child with special needs, we looked at our agency’s online Waiting Child listing. As I scrolled down, we saw Dang Man Qiang looking straight at us – a blond boy in a sea of dark-haired, dark-eyed orphans from China. We soon realized he has albinism. After doing some more research, we found that most albino children in China do not receive equal opportunities in life. We knew this little boy was our son, and we decided to name him Benjamin and move forward with him adoption.
“In April, just when we were making the hard decision to sell Ryan’s car in order to pay for the adoption, we received an adoption aid grant from Show Hope. We were relieved and overjoyed. We traveled to China in July to get Benjamin. Some people openly questioned why we would adopt a child with special needs, and our response was, ‘We are followers of Jesus and He loves orphans. If He really is my Lord then I will love this child too.’

“Benjamin is now home and his adjustment has been amazingly smooth. He loves Ryan and me, and our other kids have totally welcomed him. He eats and sleeps well, and seems to be developmentally on-track. And he is so happy!
“To Show Hope donors, we would like to say thank you. It has been such an amazing encouragement to know we’re not alone in this life-changing experience. You have been a part of God’s plan to make us more like His Son. This plan includes transforming Benjamin’s earthly life and hopefully his eternal life as well.”
