“For my wife and me, our story began with our own adoption into God’s family. As we were transformed by His perfect love, the Lord began to open our eyes to the millions of others who possessed a need for this same love. Therefore, when Alyssa and I began making plans for a family, a desire to adopt had already been miraculously planted in our hearts.
“After the births of our first two daughters, we felt God calling us to continue growing our family through adoption. However, living abroad really complicated the process. In fact, we discovered that we didn’t even qualify to adopt from several Asian countries, which was our original desire since that was where we lived and worked at the time. After a couple months of prayer and talking with our social worker, we realized that God had placed Africa in our hearts. So, trusting the Lord to work out the details, we began the process of adopting our son from Ethiopia.
“In the midst of being matched with Josiah and struggling through the reams of paperwork that were needed to bring him home. we started to become overwhelmed. ‘Will we be able to love him as our son? How will we deal with his struggles with identity? Will our daughters get along well with him? What if he has some unidentified special needs? How will our family and relatives receive him?’ As the questions came up, the Lord gently reminded me of three things. One, He is for us. Adoption is about as close to His heart as you can get. Two, His grace is sufficient. Three, His love never fails… He loves Josiah and he loves us too.
“God provided for us in so many ways, and the grant we received from Show Hope played a significant role in encouraging us while we waited to complete the adoption. Josiah is doing amazingly well, and we have been amazed to see his transformation since he came home. He is adored by us all and is full of life and personality.
