One of the amazing things we’ve seen God do is take this little organization originally called Shaohannah’s Hope and turn it into a national leader for orphan care and adoption. In 2009 we re-branded as Show Hope to boldly call people to reach those who most need hope: orphans. We also invited people to become Show Hope sponsors, which is the best first step to getting involved in the movement to care for orphans and experiencing the miracle of adoption. Our 5,000+ sponsors form the foundation of this movement, and we can’t wait to double that impact by reaching 10,000 sponsors and beyond!
We hope you enjoy meeting Sabrina through this month’s Sponsorship Update Video! Sabrina is one of several children under care at a Show Hope Special Care Centers who has been diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition which affects the liver. Each month, you are making a life-changing impact for hundred of children like Sabrina through your Show Hope sponsorship.
To extend the impact of your sponsorship, we invite you to do three things:

One of my favorite things about my job is helping people who are passionate about caring for orphans engage with Show Hope in meaningful ways. One of the ways that you do that is through your monthly sponsorship. Each and every month, you’re helping children like Asher come home to their forever families!

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts, and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. - 1 Corinthians 12:12
My husband and I knew God had placed a call upon our lives to serve Him by ministering to orphans. However, we had no idea exactly how to accomplish this. We searched His word to see just what God had to say about caring for the fatherless. What we found was verse after verse declaring God’s amazing love for these precious children. He even defines ministering to orphans as “pure and undefiled religion.” Caring for the fatherless is truly the heart of our God!
We needed to get involved and God laid Show Hope on our hearts. After receiving this little bit of direction from God, our parental instincts took over – you know the ones that shout out that you’re going to be able to fix every problem in the world?! Of course, we immediately decided that we were going to move to China to take care of babies until God placed them with a forever family…God had to pull back the reins and remind us that He was in control, not us. He had a plan.
His plan was for us to serve as the part of the body of Christ. Some of us are the feet and some of us are the hands. God wanted us to be ones to give. Becoming a Show Hope sponsor was the role He wanted us to fulfill to help meet the needs of His children. He has never failed to amaze us since we aligned our will with His and He continues to reveal new steps we can take to get more involved in this movement. Being a Show Hope sponsor is an awesome way of plugging into the body of Christ and being able to minister to waiting children around the world!
As we share our heart with you, we pray that God speaks to yours. In 2008, Scott and I were at a Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith United Tour concert. We were familiar with the Chapmans’ passion for orphans, but that night their passion became ours. That very evening, we made the decision to become monthly sponsors. We began receiving emails and mailings from Show Hope, and one specific email caught my attention – the application to go on a short-term trip to Maria’s Big House of Hope to SEE the work we helped make possible every month.
In April 2011, I was able to go on the first Sponsor Trip to China. This was yet another step for our family as we sought to live out God’s word in James 1:27. Through relationships built with children at MBHOH and with other believers and sponsors on that trip, God’s heart for orphan care has further shaped and changed our family. We have three sons, Jack (10), Tate (6), and Max (4). As they grow and we grow as a family, orphan care has become an integral part of the tapestry of our family. We have been amazed to witness this passion to care for orphans develop in the hearts of all three of our boys.
Last year, we yet again felt God challenge us to give more. It was then we became LifeHope Sponsors. We have been able to experience firsthand the excellence and integrity of Show Hope. Our family is so thankful to be able to commit not only our finances, but also our prayers to make a difference. Without a doubt in our minds, we know that these prayers and financial sacrifices are making a difference to those that matter most to Our Heavenly Father…the fatherless.
The orphan care crisis can be overwhelming. Be encouraged as you listen and seek your own role in this movement. Not all of us are called to adopt, but we are all called to care for orphans. Our prayer is that you too will be able to experience the joy that comes from walking in obedience to the Lord!

Giving to an Christ-centered organization whose mission matches our personal values was an easy decision for us. It was visiting Maria’s Big House of Hope and actually experiencing the blessing of where our money has gone that has changed our family. Orphan care has become threaded into our day-to-day lives now that we’ve actually seen the need. We pray differently, depending on God to multiply our gifts. We worship differently, understanding and appreciating more about the spirit of adoption and how God has adopted us as His own. We are spending our time differently, too, volunteering at church in hopes of enriching the current orphan care ministry. The most prominent difference we see in our day to day lives has been in our parenting. We are much more deliberate in teaching our children to make the most of their resources so that they too can honor God by giving. Hearing our four and five year old’s prayers for orphans and seeing their willingness to give of their meager allowances so that other children can have “mommies and daddies” has probably been our greatest reward.
Since we’ve seen the plight of orphans face to face and their names and faces are imprinted in our hearts, we have been compelled to respond and to live our lives differently, showing hope as a family. Becoming Show Hope sponsors is the way we have chosen to go deeper with Show Hope, and the joy of giving far outweighs any sacrifice we’ve made in doing so.
It’s easy to become side-tracked in our western culture, especially at this time of year as the holidays are fast approaching, but we know when we meet our Maker and He asks us to report how we responded to His call there will be no iPhones interrupting, no baristas calling our order, no holiday songs playing in the background… and nothing will be more important at that moment than knowing we’ve lived our faith day to day, sharing our blessings with others. It’s overwhelming to see the need, but it’s refreshing to show hope through our giving and experience the joy from doing so. We are humble for the opportunity to serve in such a tangible way. We are grateful for the blessings we experience every day through our gifts. And we are hopeful to make an impact on the future for His Name.

I’ve heard the unimaginable number of orphans in the world. I’ve visited orphanages where they live and hospitals where they are abandoned. Once you’ve put a face to a number, looked into their eyes and learned their names, you will never be the same. These experiences made me want to do everything and nothing, all at once.
Being a Show Hope sponsor has helped me not just to be paralyzed by the statistics, but to really do something. Each month as I write out my sponsorship check, I am confident that even though the amount is small, when it is added to other sponsor gifts it is being used to do amazing things.
I get so excited to read the updates on the blog or in my mailbox and read the stories of the families and their faithful pursuit to grow their families through adoption. My heart swells reading about how students are given tangible opportunities to give their time, talent and resources to help orphans.
These opportunities aren’t just for students; there are so many ways to get involved for those of us who are past school age! The experiences I had on a sponsor trip to Maria’s Big House of Hope are forever engraved on my heart. Two years later it’s a blast to keep in touch with the other sponsors and pray through challenges and praise through celebrations together. Even more so, the opportunity to cheer as sweet kiddos I met a half a world away are welcomed into their forever families is a huge joy and beautiful answer to prayer.
Being a Show Hope sponsor is so much more than writing a check every month. It is a way for me to participate in the call of a Christian to care for orphans. Instead of feeling helpless against the seemingly insurmountable statistics, I know that by being a sponsor I am making an investment in the life of a child or a family. Children come home to forever families. Students learn that their world is more than just what lies directly in front of them. Children without families are given treatments and care so they can thrive in this world, or run to the arms of Jesus from loving arms on earth. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
I invite you to join me as a Show Hope sponsor today! For a limited time, new sponsors will receive a FREE copy of Steven Curtis Chapman’s Number 1′s Volume 1 cd.
