It’s hard to believe the kids are already back in school and that summer will soon be coming to an end, but this means that the Empowered to Connect Conference, scheduled for September 10-11 here in Nashville, TN, is quickly approaching! Show Hope is excited to be hosting this conference, and we are thrilled with the response thus far. At this time, we have registrations representing 19 states, with adoptive families and orphan advocates coming in from as far away as the states of Washington and Massachusetts, with many more in between.
It is truly a privilege for Show Hope to host this event. Since its founding, Show Hope has provided grants to more than 2500 families who have adopted children from 45 countries around the world, including the United States. It is a joy to receive the testimonies and pictures of these precious children, knowing that God provided the means for us to be a small part in their homecoming. Yet, when a child comes home, the family’s journey is really just beginning.
The presentation by Dr. Karyn Purvis, and ministry leaders Michael and Amy Monroe, includes invaluable tools and resources to adoptive or foster families, professionals and church ministry leaders alike. I am particularly excited about the breakout sessions for church ministries. The body of Christ is a critical piece of the support structure for adoptive and foster families, throughout the adoption process and beyond. Families need a safe place to come and be “real.” They need a place to share their joys and setbacks; a place to be loved, encouraged, equipped, and empowered.
If you have an adoption and orphan care ministry in your church or are praying about starting one, do consider attending this conference! Click here to read a letter from Michael and Amy Monroe encouraging church ministries to be a part of this special event.

Hi, my name is Felicity. My husband, Tim, and I became
Over the past 4 days, I have spent time with a little boy named

Our team is nothing short of amazing. We have such a diverse group - different ages, different places in life, even different nationalities! Yet as one member emphasized, what we share in common far outweighs what is different about us. Each member has displayed a heart for God and a heart for orphans that both inspires and unifies us as a group, and even the simple willingness to be a part of this team, of Show Hope, and to go around the world to serve puts us all on the same level.
The “advance team”, as we called ourselves, went all the way along the Great Wall until we could not go any further, and it is that adventurous spirit that permeates our team and is the mark of those who will leave their homes, families, and jobs to visit the orphan in distress and pour out God’s love! There were even some of those who didn’t believe they would take the toboggan ride down from the Great Wall who mustered up the courage and made it happen! Bravo! I love the energy of the team, and it is the fact that we are all so different, with different skills, talents, strengths, and perspectives that I know will make this such a rich time for us.
We made it into Maria’s Big House of Hope last night and today got to tour this beautiful, wonderful home. I was here last while it was still being built, and it is amazing to see the transformation from a place of concrete and scaffolding to a place filled with love, joy, and hope. We got to see the operating room where the Geisinger Team performed the surgeries just a few months ago, and we get to see the little kids who received those surgeries running around, healing beautifully!

…seeing how quickly the ladies became friends and a unified team. More than once, the nannies commented on how well the team got along and they were shocked that the girls had just met for the first time days earlier. They will indeed know us by our love.

…seeing the sweet friendships the team made with the nannies, in spite of language and cultural barriers.
…watching the team interact with, play with, and love these precious children.
…being able to introduce the team to a country and a people that I love dearly.
…meeting together for daily devotions and seeing how He was working in each of our hearts. This photo was taken on the roof of MBHOH.
…seeing these young ladies obeying His command to care for orphans, and looking forward to seeing how He is going to use this trip to clarify His calling in each of their lives.

My husband had the incredible opportunity to take a team of 30 to Peru a couple of weeks ago! I can’t wait to share all that happened on his trip….so many people came to know the Lord. Well, before he left I ended up getting pretty sick. So, I drove to visit my mom and sister in Arkansas. I am just so thankful for her. She is such an incredible example of a Godly woman. I always had a heart to travel overseas. I went to Haiti in 10th grade and she was nothing but encouraging. She has cheered me on and prayed for me as I left on many trips to Guatemala. She supported me when Chris and I decided that I would move to Guatemala to live with Eliana until her adoption was finalized. I remember my mom telling me that her dream as a little girl was to run her own orphanage. I love that she is now an amazing grandma to a little Guatemalan diva. She shows hope to so many!! I love her heart and love that she’s my mom. Is this picture of my baby girl and mom wearing their
